Understanding Laptop Motherboards and System Boards

Your laptop was configured to support a specific motherboard (system board). When something unfortunate happens and you need to replace your laptop motherboard, start out by searching for the same exact make, model and part number on you current notebook motherboard on the internet. For example: eBay, Amazon, Google etc... are excellent starting places to find any laptop motherboard or replacement laptop part.

The main purpose of a laptop motherboard is to send instructions and commands to all the computers internal components. A laptop motherboard controls your whole laptop PC and just about everything relates back to laptop motherboards. To make it easy, essentially it's your notebook's brain which every laptop computer can't run without. The system board allows your operating system to communicate with computer peripheral devices, such as the mouse, keyboard, touchpad, 10/100/1000 and wireless network connections. Other useful features that are usually standard on laptop motherboards include expansion slots for audio sound, video graphics cards and memory module slots.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The biggest misunderstanding over replacing your laptop motherboard is the C.P.U. they use, require and speed (GHz) it supports. I personally never bothered upgrading a laptop cpu because original laptop motherboards could handle only a very slightly faster chip (for example - if you currently have a Mobile Pentium 4 2.0GHz, the most you could upgrade to would be approximately a Mobile Pentium 4 2.2Ghz. Make sure 100% that your motherboard will support your current hard drive, optical drives and has all the essentials needed for all your peripherals.

  1. I need a mother board part number dl3up1481aaa

  2. Which brand computer and what model do you exactly have. The number you put is to general to tell you which laptop motherboard you 100% need. Thanks for writing.

  3. What is the difference between a fully featured and defeatured motherboard? And is there anyway I could buy the same exact model numbered board but have a different graphics card on it?

Thanx for your time : )

  4. full featured usually will come more complete with extra ports and better graphics cards overall. the lower end model’s for each board they call defeatured which costs less money but will have less ports and usually a lower end video card. a FF might include HDMI ports while the DF would not for example. usually laptop motherboard video cards are not interchangeable. thanks for writing.

  5. That is the panasonic part number from off of the mobo. The laptop is a cf 51 toughbook.

  6. thank you very much for the comment and i am glad you found interest in my information. have a good day

  7. I have two IBM ThinkPad motherboards one has a
black cpu socket and one is white .Can I use the same cpu in either one ?

  10. do you have anything for asus?

  11. I do not sell anything here but if you let me know what your looking for – I would be more then happy to help you the best I can and point you in the right direction.

  12. Hi, ive been looking for this.

    Thanks.

  13. Recently my 1.2 gig HP 2133 (a great little machine while it worked) died – the motherboard is fried. While researching the issue online, many others have had the same problem. I would like to replace the motherboard with a different model – one not prone to failure. While I’m aware compatabilty may be an issue, the only parts I must salvage from 2133 are the screen and case.

Any suggestions for a (ideally cheap) motherboard that would fitting the bill?

  14. Hey Nate. Unfortunately hp laptop motherboards are part number specific and you would need to get the same part number of your current board. Aside from nothing fittings, the chipsets have to be original or the computer will not POST. If you didn’t want to use the same motherboard 100%, I would buy a new laptop with the systemboard you want already inside instead of trying to mod your own into getting a working machine. The case would be a mess and unless you like it as a hobby, the time, work, price would be far more money than say searching ebay for the computer you want. Thanks for writing.

hpw often in HP’s do similar models have compatible mobo’s? I have a tx1215nr and it seems the mobo part 441097-001 is good for all the tx1000 series. Also, the tx2000 series mobo has a different part# yet pics look very very similar. any thoughts??
also, our barebone AMD laptops -NO cpu, RAM, HDD, or OS as rare or expensive as it seems? I found varely little in research or it was really cost prohibitive.
    any thoughts?

you would need part number 448596-001 which is a “System boards (full-featured) – Equipped with a discrete graphics subsystem – Include thermal material”

The original laptop motherboard is 448596-001 but i think it would cost more fixing the gpu then just replacing the whole board. Up to you though.

  21. Mister Laptop Motherboard on February 4th, 2010 at 4:33 am

If 448596-001 is in your laptop now then getting that exact part number will include HDMI or whatever you have at the moment. It is a Intel processor with nvidia chipset. HP told me “System boards (full-featured) – Equipped with a discrete graphics subsystem – Include thermal material”. I do not believe it uses ATI graphics.

  22. I have a HP Pavilion DV6102OD laptop, and enjoy upgrading it whenever possible. What Mainboards are available for this that are faster? The part no. installed is 434723-001 (Intel T1350 1.86mHz with 945GM chipset)
Please give me my options! Thank you

  35. I have an HP DV9700. As you all probably know, it went belly up one day. I think they all do. I did some research and was going to buy a motherboard off Ebay but then I cam across a listing from a place in Florida that repair motherboard (PrecisionDivision.com). They fixed my board and installed a secondary fan – yes they were able to put another fan INSIDE my laptop! It has been running great since. One more note – they emphasized the importance of staying away from those youtube videos, because apparently all those videos teach you is how to ruin your motherboard haha!! I won’t be doing any youtube motherboard repairs!

    Help!! . . . please

I have a dv9000 and am wanting to replace it. the question is if a certain motherboard is compatible?

I have a dv9000 (439112-001) but I see online there is a dv9000 (444002-001) motherboard that looks identical to the first part number.

So willl that work? Because i cant find 439112-001 system board part number anywhere. I NEED YOUR HELP.

  41. Hi I have a HP pavilion tx2000 ,it will only stay on a second ,the blue light flashes then goes out new battery and several different tries it will not start ,after checking the internet it sounds like a mother board? any suggestions would be appreciated

  42. I just found http://www.laptopmotherboard.org by searching online, and found it is so sweet. Keep up the great work!

I have similar idea to this site.I hope we can work together
You can also get a tutor to help you.

  43. Mister Laptop Motherboard on November 27th, 2011 at 3:11 am

    Hello Kirolos,

In looking in my hp service guides, 439112-001 is the part number for the Windows OEM Disc for that machine so we need to get the part number off your current motherboard. 444002-001 is a motherboard for specific dv6000 laptops and the specs are “System board (motherboard) – Supports AMD Turion 64 dual-core mobile processor” but you may have a different model.

What model does your laptop say on the bottom and I could tell you exactly which part num is inside your laptop.

  44. It’s difficult to find knowledgeable people on this topic, but you seem like you know what you’re talking about!
    Thanks

  45. I have an HP V5304US laptop and I believe the motherboard failed. System turns on but no video and no boot. There are two motherboard models for this unit:

    System board
    For use with full-featured models – 430150-001
For use with defeatured models – 430151-001

I’ve already disassembled the unit and it came with the defeatured model, so I was curious if the full featured model would still work in this laptop. Got any ideas?
