Transparent LAN and WAN Services

A Transparent LAN Service is an internet connection service that runs at native LAN speeds of 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps. Enterprise customers can now enjoy speeds of 10 Gbps today. A fully meshed multipoint-to-multipoint (MPM) LAN requires special equipment installed at both the provider and customer edges. A managed service that provides a transparent WAN solution between all locations is called a managed service. To provide last mile connectivity between multiple locations, the carrier installs a CE interface (customer edge).

The Transparent LAN Service can be carried on shared or leased circuits. A leased circuit will require a physical connection to each service. This is expensive. With a shared circuit, multiple Services are carried over a single channel. The Transparent WAN service has a label at the frame. In a shared network, multiple users can access the same bandwidth. The same network interface can support multiple applications.

The Transparent LAN Service is capable of monitoring traffic between different LANs by using Ethernet counters. This same method can be used to monitor Quality of Services in other LAN technologies such as Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB), Token Ring (TM), or Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI). A label in the frame is also used to distinguish between different services belonging to the same customer. The result is that the Transparent WAN service is transparent across the carrier network.

Transparent LAN Service, a type Ethernet layer 2 switching service, is available. This service is similar to bridging small networks together. It enables branch offices to share bandwidth. It also enables a company to work with its regional branches. Another type of Transparent LAN Service is known as a virtual private LAN (VPN). This service is a standards-based carrier service and uses IP / MPLS networks as its core network.

The Transparent LAN Service uses Ethernet counters to monitor traffic. The same technique can be used to monitor Quality of Services in other LAN technologies. Transparent WAN services can be used for many other LAN types as well as Ethernet. Its Ethernet counters are used to track traffic between various locations. Transparent WAN can also support Ethernet. It is an excellent choice for large enterprises that have branches in different locations.

An Ethernet-based VPLS provider provides a transparent, high-speed, secure and transparent LAN service. This service offers carriers a great revenue opportunity. In addition, it is highly flexible, and it allows companies to differentiate between branch offices and remote offices. The same VPLS service is also used to monitor the traffic of a private LAN. A VPN can be implemented in many ways.

A Transparent LAN Service is a service that connects two or more LANs at native speed. It uses the service provider’s ATM backbone to transmit data to the other sites. This type of VPLS service uses TLS encryption protocol. The VPLS is a multipoint and MPLS-based VPLS. A VPLS network can be private and secure.

A VPLS service is able to connect a local network to multiple locations. In a multiprotocol environment, the same VPN will be able to carry multiple traffic types. Hence, VPLS service can be used to connect two or more LANs. In this case, the customer’s VPLS service will be responsible for establishing the link between the two locations. Transparent LAN Service is available over a backbone network in a WAN.

Transparent LAN Service is provided over a shared circuit. It is important to monitor service quality. A leased circuit should also allow for VPLS service. A VLAN should have a label identifying the transparent LAN Service. Each VPLS-to VPLS traffic should have its own label. VLANs can be monitored on multiple networks. Moreover, a VPLS service is asymmetric and can be switched between two locations.

The Transparent LAN Service enables business customers to connect multiple LANs without using expensive, dedicated facilities. Two LAN segments can be connected to a VPLS service over a common backbone network. During the transfer, the traffic is transformed to a traditional LAN. The Transparent LPLS service is faster than a traditional VPLS, and it removes barriers between LANs and WANs.
